Class Response
In class we started reading short stories. At first I did not want to read them because the looked really long and uninteresting. On to of reading the short stories we had been assigned a project that we had to do on the story you where assigned. The short story I was assigned was the lottery by Shirley and I worked with Malik, Dominique, and Magdalena on the project.we were the first group to present and I sorta felt like we were given no time to do the project and because of that I really stressed my partners on getting the work done in a timely matter. Working in groups usually don't work out for me because most of them time I end up doing the work by myself and in this case I did. That also reflects in the presentation because you get up there and only one person in the group knows whats going on in the slide show and it ends up being a mess. I was happy that we were allowed to do brag sheets so that I can express my lack of help. During the duration of all the presentations the short stories turned out to be actually really Interesting with a twist at the end. My story the lottery ended up with a lady getting stoned by the village she lived in. Now we have an essay on the short stories and how they relate to current events. I think i'm going to choose everyday use and the sniper because they deal with family relation ships and about culture and the beliefs you have that tear you apart from your family. During the Socratic seminar today I got a lot of ideas to put in my essay because I only had the beginning of an idea and not a whole one but with hearing the Socratic seminar ideas I have developed more ideas to write in my essay. This time I was not able to participate in the seminar because I was unprepared but next seminar I will be more prepared to be apart of it.

So I joined the knitting club about a month ago and so far the club has been really cool learning experience. I say that its cool because knitting is something that not a lot of people can do and now that i'm in the club its a different skill that I have developed. When I first began it was kind of hard to remember the technique but after a while I got the hang of it, and now I enjoy doing it. The first piece the club members decided to make was headbands because it was easy and quick to make. I choose white yarn because white goes with everything and I sorta had the idea that I would die the yarn a different color when the headband got to a off whitish color. It took me a while to finish my headband because I had a of work to do and sometimes I wouldn't touch my knitting needles for like a week.I would say to do an activity like knitting you have to set time aside in order to make a lot of progress and get better when knitting. With the knitting club going on its 2nd month of being a club more and more people come to participate which is really good. Another good aspect is that we get to know more about the teacher who instructs the knitting club Ms.Hegeman. when knitting club just started people would consonantly say "hey when are you going to knit me a hat or a scarf etc" and I would get really get annoyed after like the fifth person would say that to me in a day because its taking me a long time to knit my own headband what makes you think I want knit you something. Nonetheless The Knitting Club is really fun and every body should join.!

Yesterday was the Capital One Finacial Budget Project Competition and me and my partner Chezelle won both the local and regional competition. The road to winning was real hard. We first received this project to work on like during the summer and there was many drafts that had to be given in order to get to the regional competition. We had the scenario of a school teacher, and we had to create a budget and find a way to work them in and out of a deficit. We named him Tremaine Neverson and we had him engaged to Kiara Martian and they both live in the Bronx. The hardest part to this project is when the drafts where due. It was hard because when we would give in our drafts the feedback given about the draft was so drastic, like for example we would have to change major aspects of the project that should have been changed in the beginning of the project that my manager or myself didn't catch and it would be really annoying. Then my partner wasn't that much help to start with and because it was the beginning of the school year and the work was piling on my work on both the budget and my school work wasn't that great. Then the local competition came about and me and my partner presented and by the grace of good we won. I wasn't really that happy because it would be more work for me to do in addition to the school work I already had. My Partner agreed to help me out more and she did and she was a lot of help, and in the end all of our hard work persevered and we won.

In Statistics class I have the highest average. Having the highest average was a real shock to me because I'm not really good with math and it made me happy to have that average in a math class. Mr.Rich gives out index cards to use on test that to me is really helpful because people don't remember everything that happens and being able to write it down is a really BIG HELP. On the first test I received a 100 percent and with rejoice, I jumped up and down excited about my test grade. To prepare for this test I did all the normal stuff like finishing the review sheet Mr.Rich gave out and filling out the index card with helpful information. On the day of the test I brought a big Fiji water that was on sale for 4 dollars which made me happy because usually it way more than that. Then I made my way to school and took the test, during the test I was drinking the Fiji water and I think the water gave my brain a power up to get a 100 on the test. I don't know if it was my brain and knowledge or the Fiji water that got me the 100 but what ever it was I am grateful that I got it because it really boosted up my grade in statistics class. I was kind of worried that I would not be able to hold up to the standard of getting a 100 and I was right because the second test I got an 88 percent which I was not that excited about but I was still happy I passed the test even though it wasn't with a hundred.

Passion
I have a passion for TV because if all else fails I know there will always be a television show to watch. From reality TV to cartoons I've watch it all. The show I watch the most is Sponge Bob because it comes on all the time and I watch it everyday before I go to school and even when I come home from school. I've probably watched every single episodes of Sponge Bob. I was sad when a couple of years ago I heard they where taking it off the air, luckily Barack Obama's children also love watching Sponge Bob and he was able to bring it back😸. I watch many other shows like Bad girls club, If loving you is wrong, and The Walking Dead these are very different shows and I like that because I hate repetition I hate seeing or hearing the same thing over and over again and that's shows provided me with versatility entertainment wise. Watching these shows give me relief from my everyday life because sometimes life gets frustrating and you just want to get away from it all and for me my go to place is TV.📺📺📺 I have inserted a picture of a couch potato and it is a a perfect representation of me from the bag of chips, soda, and garbage laying around while i'm watching TV. I'm a couch potato because I can literally sit and watch TV all day long with no problem and not see outside. Bye

Starting in the
ninth grade I started tutoring a second grader named Bryanna Gomez, a little
girl who lived in the apartment next to me. Prior to tutoring her, I had never
talked, let alone seen her or her family in my building before. So it was
surprising when her mother asked me to help her out. In the back of my mind I
was unsure of ability to help another human being with their homework. I was
worried because I was not the kid in the class who had all the answer, the
person who even passed test with a high grade. Despite the my average school
work I decided to tutor her for two years straight every other day of my ninth
and tenth grades school year.
The routine for me
every day was go to school, then to Harlem Children Zone, and then at six go to
her house to tutor her. Walking into her home, I was always emerged in a blast of
heat and the look of appetizing food that was always being cooked. Day after
day we would sit on her couch doing her HW; she had the basics reading,
writing, and math but you couldn’t tell her that she acted a like her teacher
gave her pre-calculus math homework instead of second grade math. It would be
agitating at times because her parent’s barely spoke English and it was
difficult for me to communicate with her parents about things she was having
trouble with. Not being able to communicate
played a big part because
information would get mixed, up but by the time I was finished working with her
I solved our communication problem with patience.
During this time, I
had a lot to do between juggling HW and extracurricular activities. I
considered quitting, but I couldn’t because if I was to it would eat me up
inside until I felt bad enough to start tutoring her again. So I stuck with it
and made a plan to start doing my homework before I tutored her so that when I
got home I would have time to relax. My plan work and I was able to get my HW
done and it no longer was a problem.
At the end of the
school year, Bryanna took her state test and she failed. I felt horrible
because I considered it to be my fault because I was the one helping her with
her school work and I didn’t realize she was having that much of a problem. I talked
to her teacher and found out that Bryanna only answered six questions in the
whole entire test and was getting left back in the second grade. I thought that
her mom was going to fire me. I was so scared that I avoided talking to her for
a few days, but she understood that I can’t be there to take the test with her.
It was up to Bryanna to use what she learns with me on her school work. After
finding out she was getting left back, I decided to reevaluate the way I was
tutoring, I wouldn’t let this set me and Bryanna back. I found ways to
efficiently tutor her during the summer by using the recourses around me to
find worksheets and flashcards to further help her.
Experiencing this
failure with Bryanna taught me to revaluate problems and figure out ways to fix
them. When Bryanna failed I avoided the situation but I’ve learned not to do
that because it would not benefit me or her. That I should tackle problems head
on to overcome it. Also taught me how to juggle different things I have to do
and that has come in handy numerous time this year with my school work and my
job.

Class response
In class we are reading the a book called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. So far I know it's about a person named Guy
(I'm not sure if that's his name) who is a fireman and in this book instead of putting out fires he starts them. His job is to start fires with banned books because the books give people ideas of rebellion and things of that nature. With the class I've read maybe 13 pages and in the 13 pages the character guy meets a this teenager who has him reevaluating his thinks feeling and thoughts. The girl he meets thinks outside of the ideas given to her to think about. So far from the story it seems like she likes to read books and her and the main character will go through some type experience because she likes to read books. In the book there is a qoute that says something like if they give you ruled paper right the other way. I think that the girl he meet is an example of that qoute. Also in the book the main character guy comes home to his wife trying to kill herself. I thought this was intresting and I wanted o find out why she was killing herself but unfortunately I have not read past that part. So far I like the book it's not to boring I look forward to the end of the book to see what happens.
